Winter Worship Series: Gifts of the Dark Wood

The Gift of Emptiness

Dr. Chris Carrasco
Our journey through the Dark Wood invites us to the gift of emptiness. Many of us at some point feel empty inside and we fear that there is nothing there of worth. But what if we let go of our obsession with worthiness and embraced the idea that if we want to be filled by God’s Spirit and power, we must first empty ourselves. Jesus emptied himself in his birth and in his death. What does it mean for us to empty ourselves…and what is the gift in emptiness?

Winter Worship Series: Gifts of the Dark Wood

This worship series, based on the book by the same name by Eric Elnes, is about “seeing life through new eyes, recognizing that experiences of failure, emptiness, and uncertainty are as critical for finding our way through life as they are unavoidable.” We will see how experiences of life through the “dark wood” actually open us to God’s lessons of new growth that wouldn’t otherwise be possible. How can the struggles of life be the seedbed of spiritual awakening and avenues through which God shapes us?
