Incarnation%3A Unwrapping the Titles of Jesus

The Incarnate Title: Emmanuel

Dr. Chris Carrasco
Isaiah 7:14-16; Matthew 1:20-23 Matthew describes Mary’s son as fulfilling Isaiah’s prophecy of a son born as a sign of God’s presence for all people. The message of “Emmanuel” – “God with us” – was a message of hope in time s of sadness, doubt, and fear in the Old and New Testaments. Perhaps it can still be a message of hope in similar times today.

Incarnation: Unwrapping the Titles of Jesus

His parents gave him the name Jesus. But the prophets, the shepherds, the wise men and angels addressed him by other names. They called him Messiah, the Lord, the Savior, Emmanuel, the Word made Flesh and the Light of the World. This Advent we'll seek to understand the purpose of the Incarnation by unwrapping the meaning of these titles and what they tell us about the child whose birth we celebrate at Christmas. Join us as we reflect upon the significance of the Christ-child for our weary lives and our hurting and broken world today!
