The Beginning Title: Word Made Flesh

Opening with “In the beginning,” John deliberately echoed the first words of Genesis. The Word of God called forth light and light at the beginning. John deliberately wants us to make the connection that Jesus, the Word made Flesh, also calls for light and life. Bypassing the shepherds, angels, and magi, John emphasizes that perhaps Christmas is not so much about Jesus’ birth, as much as our own.

Incarnation: Unwrapping the Titles of Jesus

His parents gave him the name Jesus. But the prophets, the shepherds, the wise men and angels addressed him by other names. They called him Messiah, the Lord, the Savior, Emmanuel, the Word made Flesh and the Light of the World. This Advent we'll seek to understand the purpose of the Incarnation by unwrapping the meaning of these titles and what they tell us about the child whose birth we celebrate at Christmas. Join us as we reflect upon the significance of the Christ-child for our weary lives and our hurting and broken world today!
