The Royal Titles: Messiah and King

Micah 5:2; Matthew 1:18, 2:1-2 Christ, Messiah, Anointed One. All of these are royal titles used by prophets and those surrounding the Christmas story which point to the fact that the child born in Bethlehem 2,000 years ago was born to be a king. We will explore both what Jesus’ first followers meant when they call him ‘King” and how, if at all, calling Jesus “King” can help us grow in faith and obedience today. We’ll ask what it means to consider a man who lived 2,000 years ago to be our king.

Incarnation: Unwrapping the Titles of Jesus

His parents gave him the name Jesus. But the prophets, the shepherds, the wise men and angels addressed him by other names. They called him Messiah, the Lord, the Savior, Emmanuel, the Word made Flesh and the Light of the World. This Advent we'll seek to understand the purpose of the Incarnation by unwrapping the meaning of these titles and what they tell us about the child whose birth we celebrate at Christmas. Join us as we reflect upon the significance of the Christ-child for our weary lives and our hurting and broken world today!

The Symbolic Title: Light of the World

The Beginning Title: Word Made Flesh

The Incarnate Title: Emmanuel

The Deliverer’s Title: Savior

The Royal Titles: Messiah and King
